Isole Di Brissago 🌴 history below⬇️
//Our filming location\\
On Lake Maggiore, right near the border between Switzerland and Italy, there are the Brissago Islands. The main island is home to a massive botanical garden, covered in incredible plants, and wildlife. I've never seen so many lizards. Also on the island is the hotel, which has beautiful rooms and a marble staircase that leads up towards the bedrooms. This was where we shot our entire film, and where I spent every day. It's very magical ❤️
🏞️Originally this island was just ruins from a monistary, until it was bought and taken over in 1885. This is when the new owners decided to bring over subtropical plants and make something of this dilapidated island.
🏰 It changed hands in 1928 to Max Emden, who wanted to to be a glorious, rich place for him to live and look out over the lake. So this is when the building was started, the marble brought in and the florentine inlaid flooring.
🗻 However in 1950, Max Emdens heirs made an offer to Caton Ticino to buy the islands from them, which was well received by the areas around the islands, as well as the Swiss Heritage Society. As of now, and what was agreed upon, is the islands are only for conservation, culture, scientific and tourism purposes. So then in April, 1950, the islands were now open to the public!
You can visit this island and stay in the hotel in the summer months, which I would highly recommend visiting!
Smiling because I've embarrassed myself as per.
I'm someone who is adamant in learning a few words in the language of the country I'm working in, to the point I obsess over it, perfecting it over and over again under my breath, before I reach a person, to then say it out loud. Even in England, speaking my actual language, I have to really know what I'm going to say in my head and make sure I'm not gunna open my mouth and blurt out "blergehuh." Which happens more often than not. I know a couple of my friends are like this too.
Do you find this happens to you as well? 🙋♀️
I think it must stem from social anxiety, which I know very very well. However, in a different country, in a different language, how do you nativage it? It's a whole new world! I've found that gestures and body language are so much more important than I thought. Despite language barriers, I somewhat understood what was being said to me, and could communicate with very few (broken) words. Which was so liberating! I almost felt that talking to people in my native language was actually a problem and it got in the way of a calm and stress free interaction. Once I realised this, I allowed myself to make language mistakes, laugh, smile, gesture and have fun interacting with other people, without pressure.
So therefore, I only embarrassed myself 4 more times throughout the month. Which is pretty good going for me! 😂
