How the Immune System and Thyroid Are Connected in Hashimoto’s
This week we're covering some important issues related to autoimmunity.
To sum it up, here are a few of the important takeaways. • There may be functional hypothyroidism or sufficient thyroid hormone that isn’t getting into the cells of the body.
This is a situation in which you can have normal TSH (in the pituitary) and normal T4 and still feel like crap.
I put presented this scenario to our Facebook support group last year and got more than 350 comments.
The overwhelming majority of people said that they had normal TSH and T4, yet had a host of hypothyroid symptoms (fatigue, brain fog and memory issues, weight issues, constipation, anxiety and depression, hair loss, brittle hair and nails, etc.). Why? There are many reasons, but one is that TSH is made in the pituitary, and the pituitary absorbs and responds to thyroid hormone differently than other cells in the body.
Add to this all the accompanying problems that are involved with Hashimoto’s, like systemic inflammation, digestive issues, a poorly functioning liver, and the stress of life and what do you get? • The perfect recipe for diminished sensitivity and absorption of thyroid hormone into your cells.
The best way to find out where you stand is to test your levels of T3 or free T3 and rT3, then to divide T3 by rT3. If the ratio is too low (low T3 and high rT3), then you may have a state of hypothyroidism in your cells. T4 can be elevated in these cases also.
This is also sometimes called low T3 syndrome. Taking T3 may or may not help. As with everything involving Hashimoto’s, there is no magic bullet. You have to evaluate everything first and then try some things.
Inflammation, chronic stress, and autoimmune disease impacting other things (like the pituitary and other parts of the brain) can all cause low T3 syndrome and functional hypothyroidism.
And this state of too little T3 can have a big impact on the immune system.
Thyroid hormones play a very important role in the growth, formation, and balance of immune cells. Continued in comments...

Mom tip Monday: NO ONE (especially your kids) will remember you for your SUPER tidy perfect clean house.
They are going to remember you for the time you spent with them. Memories made playing on the floor, playing outside, reading ,laughing making a mess with toys & forts (all blankets and pillows in the living room)😝😁😜
I know as a mom we put so much pressure on ourselves to do everything & have it PERFECT at that.. Just breathe & remember that does not define you as a good mom!!!❤️❤️

What have you done in the past 35 days?
This powerhouse joined my online nutrition program, kills it at boot camp and embarked on a personal fitness challenge, why? Because she was tired of spinning her wheels and always landing back where she started.
She’s enjoyed meals out, special days with family, some nights have been better sleep then others and she sometimes has doubts. You know what remained consistent? Her focus on feeling better. While she knew she was shedding weight and inches, she had no idea just how much she had physically transformed until she paused for this. A picture is worth 1000 words, in this case it’s worth all the effort she’s put in. Her headspace around making food choices is much improved, her consistency to exercise is unreal and her fitness goals keep growing!
I love that she took a chance on me and this program, she was hesitant at first, but holy smokes, look at this transformation!
If you don’t develop new habits, don’t expect anything to change. It could be as simple as some new healthy lifestyle tools, an easy to follow approach and a trainer who’s going to keep you accountable and motivated.
Don’t start Monday, start today.
Or "weight loss" wraps or weight loss teas or waist trainers or clicking your heels and spinning in circles three times.... 💃✋👠 😐 body fat loss doesn't happen In a matter of hours and it doesn't happen without being in a calorie deficit. There is no magic solution people... And I don't think the 30 day squat challenge is a bad idea in theory- I think any form of getting active is great- BUT it is nowhere near the most efficient or effective way to lose weight or gain muscle ("toning" comes from both of these) ok I'm done 😅 #Toneitup#stopspinningyourwheels#icanteven#fitchicks#fitgirlproblems#doyouevenscience Repost photo from @deezyfitness
Love 💕 getting client feedback! Specially with a title like going from passion to purpose!
