I'm not usually one for the #TransformationTuesday posts because I never really considered a basis in which to make my transformation from!
But this weekend really highlighted to me how far I've come in a year. I didn't actually realise until I had a direct comparison that it's been a pretty transformational year.
On Saturday, I took on the same cross country race I did exactly one year ago and to say I'm just 'happy' with the result would be a true understatement.
I was not only 14 seconds quicker per km this year (3:57 / km compared to 4:11 / km) over the same course which even had an extra 2km loop this year (8km this year compared to 6km last year), but I also placed 42 positions higher and secured 10th position this year.
Though I have quantitative figures in which to base this on, for me, what truly strikes me as transformational is the years and years in which I have so desperately waited to start, run and finish a race looking and feeling strong.
Never once in my whole teenage years did I ever look strong in a XC - I have parents that can vouch for this!! I found cross country so tough and such a drain and I never really once had a successful race to be honest with you!
This isn't me bragging, I promise. It has taken an unbelievable amount of grit, miles, set backs, miles, struggles, miles and more "I just can't do this" than I can count, to get here - but I'm just pleased to see some proof that it pays off.
The next race I take on may not be as good, who knows, but that's okay because we aren't expected to peak all of the time and with highs, there are always going to be a couple of lows.
Phew. That was a long one 🤓

This was an ill-fated run. We got home late so I took my night run guardian (AKA - worst running partner ever 🐕) and at about half a mile in, torrential downpour. ⛈ My “guard dog” is terrified of storms. The last half a mile was us running home & keeping him from having a major panic attack. But I got a run in! 💥

🇫🇷 Maintenant, il fait chaud mais ce soir, il fera froid à Tokyo.
Ce matin, j’ai fait une séance d’une heure en salle de gym.
Je vais au travail.
🇬🇧 In Tokyo, it’s warm now but it will be cold this evening.
This morning, 1 hour workout at the gym.
I’m going to work.

I am definitely a morning person, but I was not about to run outside with a feels like temp of 19 degrees! Did we completely skip fall this year? We went from OMG it’s hot to freezing our butts off. I ended up running 4 miles on the treadmill tonight. It wasn’t bad but I much rather run in the morning. It’s too easy to make excuses and keep putting it off. Lesson learned...suck it up buttercup!! Run in the morning! You’ll be glad you did. #garminconnect
I *think* my boss and I are doing another marathon. Oops. But we decided to actually incorporate speed work and do better this time around. Tonight’s speedwork: 200m repeats at a 5k pace x25 with a 60 second recovery between each. I went into this thinking it would be a breeze. Nope! I didn’t even calculate it before starting. Before I knew it, I was 5.5 miles in! But felt good! I warned my boss about what was to come....
salir a entrenar con un solo propósito; seguir disfrutando de este hermoso recorrido, ir con el objetivo de hacer que cada día cuente y así mismo lograr hacer de esa meta mucho más significativa y memorable!

"Don't over do it...again" it's so easy to fall back into bad training when feeling good 🤔.
Had to force stop myself from going longer than the 5 miles tonight. Don't want to end up missing training ops due to over doing it for a second, no third, fourth time? I don't know. .
Trying to remember to keep stretching properly and not going all out every run are lessons one should remember. Kind of like raking leaves a week too early and having to do it over again 😑 lesson learned.
Do you workout when you travel? ✈️🌍
I usually don’t. However, tomorrow I’m leaving for England and the Canary Islands (🥳), I’m in the midst of the #losalchallenge2019 AND I start marathon training on Monday. 😬
So I’ll be packing my running shoes, and hopefully bribing my sister with tea in bed to come run with me. We’ll see how it goes! 😅🏃♀️
