🌸 Create a culture of consent 🌸
CW: sexual violence, ucp
If consent had been an integrated part of the curriculum growing up it could have prevented the sexual violence I experienced as a kid or at least given me language to acknowledge and share what happened. It is a devestating blow to have the ucp rip up the curriculum mindfully being made by teachers. Creating a culture of consent is a responsibility that falls on all of us. In every day interactions, conversations, and intimate ones. Consent is enthusiastic, informed, ongoing and specific and only yes means yes.
I just wanted to take a moment to talk to you all about a cause I am very passionate about. @redmylipsorg is a campaign that aims to raise awareness and combat myths surrounding sexual violence by donning red lips throughout the month of April. This is a show of solidarity for survivors, as well as a bold statement that encourages conversations about this critical issue.
Not a lot of you on here know this, but the whole reason I came to law school was so I could use my JD to advocate for survivors of sexual violence. I truly believe that through education and awareness, in addition to law reform, we CAN make a difference. For those of you who are reading this and are survivors yourselves, please know that you are not alone. I will always stand with you.
Victim blaming is deeply embedded in our society. Debates from #sexforgrades are quintessences of rape culture.
