Summer may be over by this time next week, but it’s still going to feel like summer for at least one more weekend.
Highs are expected to top out at 83 degrees on Saturday, and they are expected to get up to 84 on Sunday, so it should feel warm for anyone looking to spend one last summer weekend outdoors. And the sun should stay out all weekend too!
Temperatures are expected to dip into the low 70s by Tuesday, but they are expected to top 80 on both Monday and Wednesday. So the summer weather should stick around as the calendar gets close to the first day of fall.
Thanks, @paul_chiswick, for tagging #ny1pic in this photo of a train approaching Coney Island. Be sure to use the hashtag when you post for a chance to be featured!
In 1916, a Polish immigrant called Nathan Handwerker started a nickel hot dog stand on Coney Island with a $300 loan from two friends and his wife’s secret spice recipe. Today, Nathan’s is the most famous hot dog in the world - this is the original Coney Island restaurant at the corner of Surf and Stillwell – home of the annual Hot Dog Eating Contest - something I’d love to enter!
Peace is seeing a sunset and knowing who to thank.
Sunset over the Statue of Liberty #NewYorkCity
Today is the International Day of Peace. Sometimes unofficially known as World Peace Day, it is a United Nations-sanctioned holiday observed annually on 21 September. It is dedicated to world peace, and specifically the absence of war and violence, such as might be occasioned by a temporary ceasefire in a combat zone for humanitarian aid access.
Things I saw on the run today: ⠀
1. A cat being walked on a leash. ⠀
2. An older couple being filmed by a 90s style camcorder while eating potato chips on the lawn. It was also too early for potato chips. ⠀
3. A man with a jogging stroller, but instead of pushing kids, he was pushing two small puppies. ⠀
NYC, you’re weird and I love you for it.
