I am 100% against animal abuse and it makes me very sad to still see that there are a lot of places in Asia where you can still ride an Elephants back.
I decided not to go to any of the elephant attraction places in Thailand, even though some of them are really genuinely good for the animals. I wanted to support a less touristic place and decided to go for the Mondulkiri project in Cambodia.
This place offers shelter to elephants that are to old to work for the local people and are therefor being sold to the touristic scene. They can life in freedom in a big forest protected by the Mondulkiri Project staff.
It is just an incredible experience when you see this majestic animals walking in the wilderness. Since most of them are used to people you can come really close to them. You still have to be carefull but the guides know all the elephants by character and they can tell you if its safe.
I was really sad and angry when they told me the horrible past some of these animals have had. I am just very happy that organisations like this ones excist, helping the animals to life in freedom.
Of course it is still better if the animals would life in complete freedom, like the elephants in Africa, but still here they are protected from animal abuse and they have their own place to life.
