“Agh!! My brain won’t turn off! I can’t get to sleep!”
Unfortunately, the more we try to turn our brain off and go to sleep, we are actually sabotaging getting to sleep! It’s called the Ironic Process Theory which states that our attempts to suppress thoughts make them more likely to come to mind.
This will sound counterproductive but according to Dr. Carly Crewe, MD and Anxiety Coach @carlycrewe , we instead need to engage our minds in a task. 😳
The mind cannot think and do something at the same time. For example, it cannot obsessively ruminate about your finances and do counted breathing exercises. The chosen task needs to be calm and non stimulating.
Dr. Crewe suggests listening to an audiobook or talk radio, repeating a mantra phrase timed with your inhale such as, “I can rest.”
Give this a try the next time you are wide awake during the wee hours of the night. Hopefully, you will drift off into dreamland without too much struggle 🥱😴🤞🏻. #sleeplessnights#anxietyrelief
Saw this on @linkedin and had to share immediately! Sometimes support in the workplace goes beyond the overall culture of an organization. Sometimes support is found in the employees. What I am trying to say is that even if the company you work for is not as supportive as they should be, having the right supervisor makes a HUGE difference. This one is dedicated to all the people that have direct reports and are supportive of their lives outside of work. 🤗👏👏👏
“@politico hired me while I was on maternity leave and I’ve never felt so included. On my second week at work, the VP of HR grabbed my hands, looked into my eyes and asked me to leave earlier to enjoy my baby’s first Halloween. She doesn’t know that, but she almost made me cry. So happy for being part of an organization that has a culture like that. Happy 2 weeks at POLITICO to me!” — Andreia Pantoja Leão // via LinkedIn

It turns out that one of the best parts about motherhood, is the other mothers. ❤️
Who had more fun at the kids Christmas party?! Thank you to everyone who joined us this morning! What better way to kick off the holiday season than a party! Also a BIG thank you to @romporama for hosting us this morning! ❤️

Picture this. * A group of women that support you, look out for you, encourage you, and build you up every day while you do the hardest job there is (raising little humans). * A team of fellow mothers who are going through the journey with you across all seasons. Women you can talk to, share ideas with, and learn from. * A tribe of ladies to share stories with, hang out with, lean on and laugh with.
That is our mission here at Newsymom. To ensure every momma out there has access to this kind of support and motivation. We've got you <3.
If you have been following my stories, you know that I LOVE CHRISTMAS!
As a family with a toddler, it is so fun to learn more about what traditions other families have. Do you try to start a new tradition each year?
What are your favorite holiday traditions? ❄️
#tbt to these babies meeting for coffee to get to know each other better after meeting briefly at a blogging event. We chatted about all things birth, breastfeeding, and mental health and most likely weirded out the people sitting near us in the coffee house. The rest, as they say, is history✨
