5 Keys to Jump Higher.
Key 1: Improve your Arm Swing
Watch every elite leaper take off and one of the many things they have in common is their arms Swing way above their head and create a tremendous amount of momentum.
Key 2: Work on Your Penultimate Step.
This starts with being more aggressive from the start of your jump. The harder you push the greater stride length or “penultimate step” you will create to generate more force. Want a quick fix to add 2-3 inches to your vertical off your approach, this is it!
Key 3: Find the best Torso Angle for You
A lot of people are told to keep your chest upright when you jump but this is wrong. Some of the best athletes lean very far forward. Most athletes sweet spot are right around that 45 degree mark of a bit lower.
Key 4: Improve Stiffness in Your Foot/Ankle Complex
A lot of people will downplay the importance of the strength in an athletes feet but every athlete I’ve worked with where we incorporated exercises to strengthen their feet have all become more explosive and their first step improves dramatically. Any thoughts on this coach Troy?
Key 5: Generate a Better Stretch Reflex
Imagine you take a loose, flimsey rubber band and pull it back as far as you can. It’s not going to shoot out very far is it?
Now imagine you take a thicker rubber band that’s extremely tight and pull it back as far as you can. Much more powerful right? Anytime we are doing some kind of jump training, we are trying to create a better stretch Reflex or your ability to contract your muscle at a quicker rate after it has been stretched.
