HAPPY TUESDAY ✨ // Just a little reminder that you’re only human and to stop being so hard on yourself!
We all have our off days, which only make the good ones even better!
Let’s focus on appreciating the small things and not wearing ourselves down when things don’t go to plan!
Whatever it is you want to achieve this week, you’ve got this! 🙌🏼🧡
Psychotherapy is the use of psychological principles and methods in order to help people to overcome a problem, develop better coping skills, change their behavior, and in general improve their mental health. This is done over the course of one-to-one sessions with individuals, or even couple, and entire families, depending on the approach of the psychotherapist.
That scene in your favourite TV show, where the main character regularly meets with a mental health professional and they engage in a deep conversation about a difficult situation while sat in the privacy of a comfortable room? That's what psychotherapy looks like.
Most psychotherapists have backgrounds in psychology (myself included), psychiatry, social work or counselling, and then specialized in psychotherapy.
According to the European Association for Psychotherapy, a psychotherapist is required to have completed at least 4 years of specialized training in psychotherapy and must continue their professional development and education year after year.
So who guarantees that any of this is followed in Cyprus? Well, the Pancyprian Association for Psychotherapists (PAP) is the professional and regulatory body which monitors and maintains European standards of practice and conduct for all psychotherapists on the island.
I mention this because it is important to know that there is a professional body which guarantees that your rights and also the psychotherapist's ethical obligations are maintained. PAP is who you should contact if you wish to file any concerns about a psychotherapist practicing in Cyprus.
Their list of members is also the first place you should check if you wish to begin psychotherapy, fully knowing that the person you will be working with is accredited and is following European-wide rules and regulations.
If you wish to know more about psychotherapy in Cyprus, please feel free to contact me. I am also the assistant secretary of the Pancyprian Association for Psychotherapists, so feel free to get in touch if you want to inquire about anything or share any concerns.
