🇩🇪 Here we have the evolution of the Sturmgewehr, from the competing Haenel and Walther models of the MKb 42 to the final production Stg 44. This was done in collaboration with photographer @ak47_catalog
⚔️ The first of these to see combat was the Mkb. 42(H) which was in limited use/combat testing on the Eastern Front in small numbers.
⚔️ The Sturmgewehr would create a whole new small unit doctrine. The Volksgrenadiers and some Panzergrenadier units fielded Sturmgewehrs in large numbers and ideally would have squads entirely armed with Sturmgewehrs. Platoon-level fire and maneuver would basically be one machine gun laden squad providing cover for squads made up entirely of Sturmgewehr gunners who would close with the enemy using automatic fire.
⚔️ The concept of the assault rifle (a select fire, magazine-fed shoulder weapon chambered in an intermediate rifle cartridge. This is an actual US military definition that was solidified in the literature in the 1960s and one everyone who studies military firearms basically accepts, so don’t mess me with that “there’s no such thing as an assault rifle” shit) has proven to be a sound one, as basically all major powers have adopted them in the end, the first being the Russians.
❓What is your opinion of the Stg 44? Is it your favorite German firearm?

I don’t have too much to update on my uniform... I’m working on aging it, but I still need to actually get started on that. I’ll be taking some photos of my loadout with the 100 year old camera I have, so they should be available by next Thursday or Sunday at the latest.
