Louder for the people in the back! Stop getting one-time-use clothes!
= = =
I keep seeing these ads all over the place for family Christmas PJs. You know the ones, they're super cute looking and the family all looks so happy and not at all chaotic and stressed and you're like "YES! THESE!"
= = =
And next thing you know you've spent $100 getting 4 sets of PJs that say something ridiculous like "best Christmas ever" on them... and ya know what happens? You never wear them again. Or worse! You lose them before Christmas morning and you don't even have them for the cliche Christmas morning picture.
= = =
Shots fired, y'all. But we're going there! Just STOP IT! If you want to get your kids Christmas PJs, get plain ol' plaid ones that they can wear all year. But for the love of all that's good and holy...
= = =
STOP BREAKING THE BUDGET ON ONE-TIME THINGS TO LOOK CUTE ON INSTAGRAM.
= = =
Get your whole family a membership to the local zoo or aquarium (even if it's a smaller zoo or something like that, it's a blast) for the whole year instead. (Or you could get PJs for everyone for the next year that are normal!)
= = =
Do something BETTER than one-day-$25 PJs.
= = =
Ok, I'll hop off my soapbox. 😘 We cool? Ok good.
= = =
Talkin' to you, @inspiredbudget 😘🤣 Hope you got the kids some PJs they'll wear more than once!🤣
= = =
Have you ever done matching Christmas PJs for your family?
Let me know in the comments! 👇👇👇

Bam! $2,000.00 towards our LAST student loan! Only $16,801 left! Our goal is to be under $15,000 by 2020! I know for certain we are going to meet and likely exceed that goal as we head into the new year. 💃💃
The accrued interest for this payment was just over $34.00. When we first started in Aug 2014 our monthly accrued interest was nearly $2,000 😳😳😳😳😳💸💸💸💸 _______
It's crazy how intentional effort over time can equal some big results. We watched the @playwithfireco this week and it donned on me we have been playing with the FIRE (Financially Independent/Retire Early) concepts for the past 5 years and 5 months and didnt even know it. Our debt payment rate has been approx 58% of our income over the past 5 year and very soon that will become our savings rate!
Since watching the film I have started listening to the @choosefiradio podcast and think it's going to be my podcast of the year nomination! So many interesting ideas and new perspectives. Excited for 2020 and all the changes paying off this crazy debt will bring!

I’m writing this caption from behind the counter at my part time job because something really cool just happened.
I had 2 customers come up, a guy and a girl. The girl asked for a small pumpkin pie ice cream and the guy got a sugar cone with pumpkin spiced latte ice cream. When they went to checkout, they noticed my sticker on the tip jar about my student loans. “You have student loans?”, they asked. “Yes”, I replied, “This is my second job. Just trying to pay them off!”
Their total was $9.50 and the guy handed me a $20 bill. Then, he proceeded to say some of the best words you can hear if you’re me, “keep the change.” I looked at him in shock - sheer gratitude for his kindness. “You’re gonna make me cry!”, I said. To which he replied, “Now don’t do that or I’ll start cryin!” And we laughed. And then I actually started to tear up. And then I thanked him profusely and we said our goodbyes.
Not 2 minutes later, he came back with another $20 bill. “Here you go”, he said. We then talked briefly about my education and my career and my goals, and he left after a fist bump.
He tipped me $30.50 in total.
I’m gonna stop before I start tearing up again. Don’t need the customers to think I’m crazy haha. But wow. He has no idea how thankful I am and how much this means to me. It goes beyond words.

I have things on my wishlist tempting me, but I know they’ll feel so much better next year when I’m debt free ❤️

Yesterday I came across @debttogratitude Instagram account and her story highlight thats a few weeks old where she’s sitting in bed-a hospital bed-after ignoring health symptoms and putting off going to the e.r....and she says “don’t let things get twisted”.. Don’t.
Debt payoff shouldn’t be THE most important thing in your life-at least I don’t think it should. Your health should, your relationships should. There is nothing that can replace either of these things.
I gave up a long shift on Friday (tomorrow) at work to another willing interpreter because there’s something else more important than a paycheck will ever be calling for my time.
I never want the people in my life to feel like a student loan balance of zero is more important than connection, than time together making memories.
I support sacrifice. I support making adjustments. Just don’t loose sight of what’s really the most Important thing. And if your relationships start to suffer-just double check yourself. Make sure you’re going after what you really want.
If you need to pick up a bottle of wine today and it wasn’t in the budget, maybe it’s not a big deal. If there’s some last minute favor for a family member or you think you should splurge on a bouquet of flowers for the host, do it. These things are not going to set your FIRE journey backwards.
May your priorities be clear to you today and every day. ❤️ happy thanksgiving. 🦃 .

My mind has been blown ever since I calculated my debt free date 🤯 And ever since then, I’ve just been working to shave time off that! Next Christmas I’ll be debt free and hopefully have an almost fully funded emergency fund! 🤩
....and didn’t choose to - make sure you ring the store.
Friday I went on a small shop to Asda. Girls in tow it’s always a little chaotic, if not something almost identical to an episode of supermarket sweep (we came home with another miniature yapping dog - not sure if I’ve mentioned this before, we now have one each).
So when we got home & I discovered the full price flatbread I was giving the Mr for his tea was 3 days out of date I was peeved. .
So I rang the store, asked for the manager & he promised to compensate me whenever I brought the item back.
I returned it today & got a refund, a free flatbread and a £5 voucher they gave me as cash! I get the feeling I could have pressed for more but £6 up definately worth the phonecall.
I tend to mostly ignore use by dates on many things but it should be our choice to make, not to mention a yellow sticker item. .
Before you can climb out of a hole, you need to stop digging it. To exit your current debt situation, stop going further in! 💪
“Little treats” and “pampering indulgence” can rack up your monthly expenses. Cut down and learn to live “below” your means if you want to remain debt free.
