"If you don't know what you want, someone else will tell you. That's capitalism.... our desire is revolutionary." -Samia Abou-Sambra of @turtletankschool#radicalart#watercolor #anticapitalistlovenotes
When I first heard these words from Samia on @healingjustice podcast, they shook me to my core. Every gd day I feel like I am out here defending what I want because it doesn't fit into the mold. My partner and I don't make a ton of money. We also don't spend a ton of money. We don't have a huge house or multiple cars not only because we can't afford those things but more importantly because we don't want those things. Being an interracial/intercultural couple choosing to live in the Global South, we don't fit in the mold of other people's expectations of my whiteness, of "development" or "progress." But I've been spending energy getting mad at people when I only recently realized (through Samia's wisdom) that I'm really mad at a system that makes well being into a commodity, a privilege for the materially wealthy. I'm mad at a system that equates caring for mental health with laziness and burnout with success (thank you @thenapministry for preaching this message 🙌🏻). I'm mad at a system that tries to teach us all to want aka consume the same things in order to generate more profit for the 1%. I'm mad at a system that makes unreasonable amounts of debt seem like the only option we have to make a decent living. I could go on... but I think Samia said it best, "Our desire is revolutionary." So fight for what you want. Love who and how you want. The thing is, mass production needs monolithic mass consumption. Capitalism needs white supremacy. Capitalism needs heteropatriarchy. Diversity is a wrench in the capitalist machine. When we know what we want and live into that desire we become another wrench in that machine and our desire becomes revolutionary 💕💕💕 .
50 years ago today, Black Panther Chairman Fred Hampton was assassinated by the Chicago Police Department and FBI at his home as he slept next to his pregnant partner. He was leading an anti-capitalist, multiracial coalition against racism and the ruling class. He was 21 years old. His comrade, Mark Clark, was also murdered. Never forget.
A Black Phillip for your Black Friday. 🖤🐐🖤 Remember everyone, before you hail Satan, hail yourself. 🤘❤ Don't spend money you don't have to buy things you don't need. It's fun to shop, but the people who love you won't love you less if you don't buy them something. The greatest and most valuable gift you can give is of your time and love. And if you don't have the physical and/or emotional resources right now to give to others, then don't. Don't let the capitalist, consumerist, status-climbing, wealth-idolozing mind-fuck machine that we live in tell you that you're a bad person if you aren't giving gifts. You come first. I don't want a gift from anyone if they've suffered to give it to me. And I don't want anyone dragging themselves to parties or family gatherings or anything like that if it's going to damage their mental health. The holidays are really hard for a lot of people, so be kind, be gentle, and be forgiving, especially to yourself.🤘🐐🖤

Tfw when society will call for the citizens to be more responsible about using plastic straws and bags but won't challenge the corporations who constantly pump greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
