#paladinsofthewestkingdom is by far #shemphillips best game to date. Pure genius! Every card has been thought about for balance. This game had a very tight score. We each had different strategies and any could have easily won. Rumours are true, its heavier than previous games, a real gamers game. #graphillgames
#paladinsofthewestkingdom got played last night. I enjoyed it so much I took a picture of the box, a picture of my player board and forgot to take anymore. So I added a facepalm too. Paladins is a more than worthy successor to Architects and combines #enginebuilding#actionselection and #workerplacement both on your board and the main board (later in the game) to produce a smooth game of simultaneously growing and protecting your town. You place workers on your board to perform a variety of actions, but here’s the catch! Want to do an action more than once, you need to use another action to clear those workers off the spot because they stay there till you pass. The large amount of actions provide a lot of meaningful decisions, but all in all there wasn’t much AP. You can see what you need to do, but how efficiently can you do it? Do you build walls and hire outsiders to defend the town? Do you mercilessly kill the outsiders or send your own townsfolk away on quests? Do you commission monks or build outposts to gain a foothold, or what about building workshops to make you more efficient in later turns. It’s an interesting puzzle that has little in the way of direct conflict. Mostly taking a card your opponent wants is the best way to spoke their wheel! I had an absolute blast with this one. Great art by @txemico again too. It fits perfectly in the world created by #shemphillips and @garphillgames and I look forward to their next game with baited breath. #boardgames#boardgame#boardgaming#tabletop#tabletopgame#tabletopgames#garphillgames#themico#boardgamelife
I enjoy upgrading or customizing my games. I especially like using a box insert to help organize all of a game's components while speeding up set up and tear down time. Shem Phillips of Garphill Games designed inserts to be used for his games Architects of the West Kingdom and Paladins of the West Kingdom and then made them available for free on Thingiverse. Not owning a 3D printer myself, I enlisted the services of my friend Oscar at @printnplay3d to create the inserts for me. Oscar has printed several inserts for me in the past and the quality of his work and rapid turnaround time are always first-rate. You can see his Etsy shop at https://www.etsy.com/shop/PrintNPlay3D?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=690200128.
Another go at #paladinsofthewestkingdom by #shemphillips and #graphillgames. Shem knocked it out of the ballpark with the second of this trilogy. Cant wait to see what he comes up with next. Tonight's score wasn't as close, but one of the players is new to gaming. Plus they had the disadvantage of me teaching the rules. Maybe that's why I won.
